About the speakers:

Dean Parkin, Director of the national Yes Campaign

Dean Parkin is from the Quandamooka peoples of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) in Queensland. He’s Director of From the Heart and the national Yes Campaign. He was closely involved in the process that resulted in the Uluru Statement.

Former investment analyst at alternative asset investment firm Tanarra Captital with extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs. Has consulted across public, corporate, not-for-profit and political sectors on all levels of government.

Bachelor of Arts (Politics and Journalism) from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Melbourne. He is a Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Fellowship for Social Equity and an ex-officio member of the Business Council of Australia’s Indigenous Engagement Taskforce.

Tony McAvoy SC, Barrister and member of the Government’s Referendum Working Group

Tony McAvoy SC is a Wirdi Man (CQ). He’s a Barrister, former Treaty Commissioner for the NT, Senior Counsel assisting the Yoorrook Justice Commission (truth telling Royal Commission in Vic), previously Senior Counsel assisting the Don Dale Royal Commission, currently a member of the Government’s Referendum Working Group, Commissioner on the NSW Independent Planning Commission, and NSW Bar Council. Holder of an Honorary Doctorate in Law from UTS.

Semara Jose, Co-founder and Chairperson of Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation

Semara is a proud Gudjula, Eastern-Kuku Yalanji and Darnley Island woman. Born and raised in Cairns, she is the Co-founder and Chairperson of Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation. With a passion for youth leadership, she empowers young people to create change for themselves, their families and their communities.

Getting there.....

Driving
Street parking is limited with some spaces behind the Orpheum on Parraween Street as well as in Cremorne Town Centre, opposite the Orpheum on Military Road. Disabled Parking is available in the former. (Such patrons are recommended to contact the Orpheum before their visit.) Be sure to arrive early if you plan to drive.

Buses from the Northern Beaches
Almost any bus to the CITY will take you to Cremorne Junction, (notable exceptions being the L90 and L88). Just ask your bus driver if in doubt. You can also take the 144 from Manly.
