Event description

FareShare is the largest charity kitchen in Melbourne that prepares over 5,000 meals per day from their commercial kitchen in Abbotsford. These meals are distributed to over 400 charities around Victoria to all sorts of people who need support.

Build relationships and have fun while creating thousands of meals for people in need. Guided by experienced chefs, participants roll pastry, bake quiches, crack eggs, cook sausage rolls or veggie rolls and pack meals. You will also learn about food waste, food rescue and food poverty in our city.

Everyone leaves feeling more connected and knowing they have made a direct social impact.

$85 ex GST per person with all money going to FareShare.
All volunteers will also receive a Kenshi Life Changing Candle worth $39.60 each.
These amazing candles fund 3kg of pasta when purchased and make a fantastic personal or corporate gift.

Reminders from FareShare

On the day

Our kitchen is located at 1 South Audley Street, Abbotsford.

Please arrange for the group to arrive at 1:15pm. We will welcome them and provide them with a quick briefing before introducing them to one of our passionate chefs who will lead and accompany them for the experience. Your crew will be involved in various tasks including food preparation and cooking meals for people doing it tough in our community. We will make it a safe, fun and rewarding “hands on” experience for all your volunteers.

You will have a tea break during your shift and it will wind up at 5:00pm.

Important – you must have had three vaccinations against COVID.

FareShare has changed its requirement regarding vaccination status of volunteers. From May 2, all staff and volunteers must have their vaccinations up to date (i.e. three vaccinations). Please ensure that you are able to show evidence of this (i.e. three vaccination dates) on the day of your shift.

Face Masks remain ON at FareShare : Despite the government lifting some restrictions, face masks remain mandatory inside FareShare’s buildings and kitchen. Please put on a clean mask on arrival at FareShare which you must keep on at all times apart from when you are sitting down at your tea break.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT/PARKING

Our general recommendation is to use public transport. The options are:

  • The 109 and 12 trams run along Victoria Street - get off at stop 22 on the corner of Victoria Street and South Audley Street.
  • The 78 tram runs along Chapel Street and Church Street and finishes up at the corner of Victoria Street – a 5 minute walk from us.
  • The nearest train station is North Richmond, which is a 15 minute walk along Victoria Street.

We do not have any off-street parking. There is extremely limited 4 hour street parking in the area. It may be simplest to park at the Victoria Gardens shopping centre on the corner of Victoria Street and Burnley Street. This parking is NOT free. Victoria Gardens is a brisk 10 minute walk from FareShare.
