Event description

Slow Food DC looking for volunteers to join us for 90 minutes on March 6th to help repackage bulk vegetable and flower seeds so they can be donated to the DC community.  The seeds have been purchased in bulk packs, and they need to be separated out into small seed packs (10-15 seeds each) that meet the needs individual gardeners in the DMV this season.

Once repackaged, the seeds will be donated through Free Seed Libraries and community events in the city as the part of the Share a Seed Program.  Seeds packed at the event will be distribute spring and summer 2025. All necessary supplies will be provided at the event, we just need volunteers to help repackage the seeds and where possible, promote the Free Seed Libraries.

Volunteers for this event are also invited to bring any extra seed they have to share with the community.  All seeds are welcome, though we recommend donating seeds that are no more than one year old and have been properly stored in a cool, dry place. We also recommend donating seeds appropriate to the climate of the mid-Atlantic region.

Share a Seed is a mutual aid seed sharing and growing program founded by former Slow Food DC Board Member, Reana Kim at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Share a Seed replaces scarcity with abundance by leveraging the power of community to fill resource gaps. Growers and gardeners share their spares with the project (seeds, garden equipment, soil), which are then redistributed throughout the community. Share a Seed seeks to connect under-resourced community members to the resources, mentorship, and tools they need to get growing!  Learn More about the Share a Seed Program here: Share a Seed — Slow Food DC

As this event will utilize public library space, so no food is allowed at the event and you must comply with all DC Library rules.
