Week 9 One Act of Fun with Trudi Ross

Play is one of the first languages we ever speak, and one of the first we are taught to set aside. As adults, life fills with responsibilities and routines and the quiet pressure to have it all handled, and somewhere in there the playful part of us goes quiet. Not gone. Just waiting for permission.

This week Trudi Ross opens a space to give it exactly that. A classically trained actor, comedian, and facilitator who has spent years using play to bring people back into connection, Trudi guides a warm, interactive evening of theatre based games and activities designed to help you laugh, loosen, and step gently outside your comfort zone. To settle the nervous system before we begin, she starts with a simple tapping practice, so that by the time we play, the body already feels safe enough to let go. Nothing here asks you to perform. Every activity is built around connection, creativity, and doing something together, without anyone ever setting foot on a stage.

There is more happening in a room like this than laughter, though there is plenty of that. When we play together, the usual armour comes off. We stop managing how we are seen and start actually meeting one another. Something in the space between people softens, the same softening we have felt in sound, in movement, in voice across this term. Play turns out to be one of the oldest and most direct ways humans have ever found of coming back into relationship, with each other, and with the more spontaneous, alive part of ourselves that everyday life tends to bury.

Whether you count yourself an introvert or an extrovert, this is not about being funny or clever or good at anything. It is about giving yourself permission to play, and discovering what opens up when you do. For some this arrives as pure lightness, a laugh that has been waiting a long time to surface. For others, a quiet surprise at how good it feels to be this unguarded. We do not prescribe the experience. We hold the space for it.

Come as you are. Leave feeling lighter, more connected, and reminded that play was never something we outgrew. It is part of how we stay well.

A note on prices and sustainability of the program

Our commitment is to make this program accessible to everyone in our community regardless of an individual's financial situation. However we don't want payments to be a barrier to participation in the program, if you are in financial hardship please reach out to Mowana and arrangements can be made.
We also strongly believe that our facilitators who dedicate their lives to their crafts should be fairly compensated for their services. If you can afford more than the minimum ticket price, your generosity will contribute to the program's ongoing sustainability.
