Golf Competition (*qualifying event)

Dates: Saturday 22 July 2023

Time: 1pm to 5pm

Location: Hamersley Golf Club, 102 Marmion Ave, Karrinyup WA 6018

Cost: $20 (+ booking fee)

Competition details:

Special Olympics local competitions are for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism, who wish to compete against other athletes in their chosen sport, and qualify for Special Olympics' state and national competitions. They include:

- A high-quality competition, with multiple divisions for beginner, intermediate and advanced players

- Qualified umpires and game support officers

- Award presentation, with prizes and certificates

- Performance results and feedback

- Unified events (where athletes with and without intellectual disabilities play together)

Competition rules:

- Athlete must compete in 1 or more individual skills events on the day. They include:

1. Short Putt

2. Long Putt

3. Chip Shot

4. Pitch Shot

5. Bunker Shot

6. Iron Shot

7. Wood Shot

We recommend athletes give all the individual skill events a go!

- Athletes have the choice in competing in 1 of 4 golf competitions following the individual skill events. Athlete can only choose 1 of these competitions. They include:

1. 9-Hole Unified Sports Alternate Shot Team Play Competition - where a team shall consist of one athlete with an intellectual disability and one Unified partner
without an intellectual disability.

2. 18-Hole Unified Sports Alternate Shot Team Play Competition - where team shall consist of one athlete with an intellectual disability and one Unified partner
without an intellectual disability.

3. 9-Hole Individual Stroke Play Competition - where Special Olympics athletes play individually in the competition.

4. 18-Hole Individual Stroke Play Competition - where Special Olympics athletes play individually in the competition.

- Equipment: Athletes can bring along their own equipment or are welcome to borrow equipment at the Club for the competition.

- Attire: Athletes must ensure they wear the appropriate clothing for the competition as their the dress code found here.

1:00pm - Welcome

1:15am - Individual skills events

2:30pm – Break

2:45pm - Competitions commence. The event will include the following competitions for athletes to compete in:

4:45pm – Award Presentations

Note: The final schedule will be included in the information pack sent out to all athletes prior to the day once all athlete registrations have been received.

Who can get involved?

- Athletes who are registered as 2023 Special Olympics members

- Athletes who train/play at an existing golf club

- Athletes who want to become eligible to compete in upcoming Special Olympics state and national competitions, including our upcoming 2023 State Games

How to register:

To compete in the competition, athletes must register online via this page by Monday 17 July.

Before the day, all registered athletes will receive an information pack with further information on the event.
