WAAPA’s 2023 Guitar Forum is a celebration of guitar composition, culminating with a showcase of new and recent works by acclaimed WA composers curated by A/Prof Jonathan Paget.

The event commences with a workshop and roundtable discussion for composers young and old (anyone with an interest in in writing for the guitar), involving a discussion with leading composers Dr Chris Gainey, Dr Anthony Garcia, Dr Paul Svoboda, and Dr Lindsay Vickery focussing on developing successful approaches to working with the instrument. For anyone interested in developing their abilities to compose and arrange successfully for the guitar, this is for you!  It is particularly relevant to high school music students developing a minor in composition as part of their WACE music studies.

The event concludes with a showcase concert featuring works by Western Australian composers for the guitar, including Christopher Gainey, Mathew Laurenson, Marcus Roberts, Jane Darcey and Duncan Gardiner (among others).  A feature of the concert will be the Guitar Society Orchestra performing the signature work commissioned from Dr Duncan Gardiner "Guitar Softly Playing."
