Event description

The Mayoral election is coming up and your community alliance is gearing up for it. Te Ohu Whakawhanaunga Tāmaki Makaurau and Living Wage is hosting a Wages and Houses Mayoral Forum for the Mayoral candidates. We want to make sure that whoever gets into the decision making table commits to stand by the voice of the people in supporting the living wage and our housing asks.

We can't do this without you.

Your voice matters, and we are stronger together.

Wednesday 17th of September, with kai provided. Door opens at 5:30pm.

At St. Matthew-in-the-City.

  • Please no heckling. Being respectful of everyone no matter what they say is still important!

  • No other political promotions allowed here. We are here with a clear agenda as voted on by the alliance.

  • Bring your organisation's banner and wear your power clothes. That means the community, faith, union group you belong to.

The Housing Asks:

  1. To commit to the progressive realisation of the Right to a Decent Home.

  2. To restore the Affordable Housing Work Programme with commitments for affordable housing through the Long Term Plan.

  3. To work with Te Ohu Tāmaki to develop and deliver on an advocacy plan to central government for more social and affordable housing.

  4. Increase Auckland Council's current annual homelessness budget from $500,000 to $2,000,000 and work with Te Ohu Tāmaki and housing and homelessness sector on how to best distribute this funding.

The Living Wage Asks:

  1. Maintaining the Living Wage as the minimum rate for all directly employed staff and regularly contracted workers at Auckland Council.

  2. Maintaining Living Wage Employer Accreditation.

  3. To support Council Controlled Organisations to become Living Wage Accredited Employers.

See you there!
