Waitangi Day 2025 at Te Puia

Kia ora e te whānau!
Celebrate Waitangi Day at Te Puia | New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute with a jam-packed day of cultural festivities, delicious kai and wānanga. Kicking off at 9:30am, we’ve got activities for the whole whānau!
- Pā activities: Tītī tōrea (stick games), Poi and Haka lessons
- Cultural performances
- Bouncy castle and face painting (kiri tuhi / moko) for tamariki
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi wānanga - learn about our history
- NZMACI - watch demonstrations of weaving, wood carving, stone and bone carving
- Train rides to Pōhutu Geyser (every 30 mins) - passengers can hop off by the geyser, returning on the next available train.
Feeling hungry after all those activities? Celebrate with kai and inu at our street food market with an extensive menu of delicious options, including Hāngī cooked in the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley.

Entry times - 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm
Tickets are free of charge to locals, but bookings must be made in advance for entry into our Waitangi Day event.
