Koala Bushland Walk with Dr Richard Noske and Dr John Moss
Description
The Australian Conservation Foundation Brisbane South & Logan invite you to walk with Dr Richard Noske and Dr John Moss for our first guided bushwalk of 2026.
Richard and John will lead us as we visit the Koala Bushlands in Burbank, a premier nature destination located about 15km south-east of Brisbane’s CBD. Consisting of open eucalypt forests and rainforest pockets, the area is an important part of Queensland’s Koala Coast network . This area is a significant habitat for wild koalas and offers a peaceful, scenic escape for walkers, hikers, and mountain bikers through open eucalypt forests.
We will look for koalas, wallabies and other wildlife as we walk through the open forest, woodland, riparian forest and heathland. Visitors to the Koala Bushland often spot wallabies, birdlife, and enjoy the diverse flora, including wildflower displays in spring.
Brisbane Koala Bushlands has 2 main shared trails and one designated walking trail. They range from 1.4 kilometres to 6.2 kilometres.
Our planned walk is approximately 4km, however we can accommodate those who prefer less.
The trails are mostly flat and easy to walk on, with minor slopes and few obstacles.
The walk will take us from the picnic and amenities carpark site, along the red-coloured track (#3) as far as #21 (in small black square). We will then turn right off #3 and follow the dashed green track to Leacroft Rd, finishing opposite the corner of Longton Ct.

Prior to the walk, we will organise cars for a one-way walk so that there are some at the Leacroft Rd end to ferry people back to the start (BBQ/ carpark).
Both Richard and John bring a wealth of information about trees, flowering species, birds, mistletoe, butterflies, and an extraordinary life-long study and knowledge of our natural forests and the incredible life inhabiting them.
Dr Richard Noske was a Senior Lecturer in biology at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia, for 26 years before retiring to Brisbane, Queensland. He was President of Birds Queensland for 4 years and is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at University of Queensland. He has written or co-written over 150 peer-reviewed journal papers, 14 book chapters, three books, and numerous other articles.
