Walk for Peace Geelong ~ WFP

Join us on August 31st as we Walk for Peace along our beautiful Geelong Waterfront. We will be walking 41km, in 10km loops, along the Eastern Beach/Western Beach foreshore.

As the world is experiencing growing instability and violence against civilian populations, including the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the need for a global commitment to peace is greater than ever. 

On August 31st, the Geelong community is invited to join us on a walk to promote peace and non-violence. The walk will be 41km, the same distance as the coastline of Gaza, along the Eastern Beach/Western Beach foreshore.

The walk is open to everyone and will focus on open dialogue and growing understanding. People can join for part or all of the way. Those not walking can participate in other ways. We will have various activities throughout the day including leaving a message on our Tree of Peace and Hope, joining in songs of resistance by local musicians, or having a bite to eat with us at a rest station.

Walk for Peace is a free event, and we encourage people of all abilities and backgrounds to join us in this day of reflection and community connection.

*Note, this loop will need to be walked four times to reach 41km. Optional shorter distances to join throughout the day.

Gathering Place: Grassy Area at Eastern Beach Reserve - walking distance to amenities, lifeguard station, cafe and playground.  

Accessibility:

• Walk for Peace is a free event.

• The route will be on sealed footpaths, although please be aware that sections are narrow and uneven, particularly along the Western Beach segment.

• There are participation options for all abilities. Please ensure that you are medically fit if participating in the walk, especially if committing to longer distances.

• Ensure you wear appropriate footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.

• Family Friendly: parents/guardians must actively supervise children, remain distraction-free, and accompany children under 5 in the water.

• Pet friendly: please keep dogs on lead and under safe control.

• Amenities: there are public toilets at several points along the route; BBQs, playground, café, near Eastern Beach.

• Parking: free 3hr parking available along Eastern Beach Rd and at the Eastern Beach carpark, and all-day parking at Eastern Park.
