Walk: Menucha Survivor's Path and Lunch
Description
Join us for a guided walk, led by Dr. Val Correa, along the Survivor Path at Menucha Conference Center in the Columbia River Gorge. Lunch will be provided afterwards in the Menucha dining hall.
Dr. Valerie Correa, the creator of the Sunrise Daisy Survivor Path: Walk to Renewal at Menucha Retreat Center believes that nature and art are healing guides to re-ground yourself during and after cancer treatment. Moving from being dependent on medical instruction for survival to trusting your own survival instincts and taking the initiative to carve out time for healing is the goal of this day on the path.
Bring a journal and a pen, if you want to jot down some insights from the path's art installations and Dr. Correa's group discussion that inspires you. As a psychologist, marital and family therapist and acute myeloid leukemia survivor/stem cell survivor, she has created a reflection guide that will help this time of introspection. Additionally, there are fun engaging ways to increase hope and learn coping skills along the path (self care garden, wind phone, and butterfly chair as examples). First, you will have a silent walk, time of reflection and journaling to personalize your own individual experience and healing, then, Dr. Correa will give some discussion prompts that people can either answer or just soak in the responses of others.
Then, a creative writing exercise to empower action towards self protection and healing before leaving. This time is for you and to ignite a knowing of your own innate nature to survive and thrive. A day of care, fun and thoughtfulness just for you.
This is a complimentary event for those diagnosed with breast cancer. If you have questions, contact programs@pinklemonadeproject.org
Directions:
Menucha is located on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge, in Corbett, Oregon inside the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Menucha is 30-40 minutes from Portland and Vancouver’s air, bus, and train terminals. Freeways I-84 and I-205 provide easy access by car from all directions.
Take whichever highway you need (SR 26 or SR 30) to get to I-84 eastbound out of Portland. Take exit 22, Corbett Hill Road. At the top of the hill turn LEFT onto Historic Columbia River Highway. Follow signs toward Vista House/Crown Point and proceed 1.25 miles. You will pass the Corbett Country Market and a fire station along the way. (If you pass the Corbett schools, you are headed the wrong direction. Turn around.) Keep left at the fork where Grange Hall Road splits off from the highway. Menucha’s entrance will be on the left side of the road.
YOU’VE GONE TOO FAR if you reach Women’s Forum Park (1/4 mile past us) or Vista House at Crown Point (2 miles past us). You’ve gone way too far if you reach Multnomah Falls.
