Walk on Country - Indigenous Plant Walk & Community Planting
Description
Join us for a special morning of learning, walking and planting on Wurundjeri Country.
Indigenous Plant Walk with Wiradjuri elder, Aunty Jo: Discover local native plants and learn about their traditional uses for food, fibre and medicine.
Community Native Planting: Get hands-on and help us plant Indigenous species in the Allwood gardens, while learning practical tips about what to plant, where to plant it and how to care for native plants in your own garden at home.
Morning Tea & social: Enjoy locally baked wattle seed muffins with a tea and coffee while we gather for a relaxed yarn in the Allwood gardens. Bring your own lunch if you’d like to linger a little longer with Auntry Jo and community.
Aunty Jo is a Wiradjuri elder, but was born and raised on Wurundjeri Country and has lived in the local area her whole life. Aunty Jo has deep expertise in bush foods, fibre and medicinal plants that comes from years of studying and teaching Conservation and Land Management at the Gunung-Willam-Balluk Learning Centre and the Indigenous Engagement Centre at Kangan Institute in Broadmeadows. She also leads a thriving Indigenous Community Garden in Westmeadows.
