After 25 years in big beer in NZ, AUS and Europe, Grant Caunter said goodbye to the booze and bad habits and started walking into Grant 2.0. 

All while living in Amsterdam as the Heineken Global Director of (5 Billion Euro) Craft & Specialty beer.  

Lucky the Dutch love an excellent non-alcoholic beer, so no problem sharing a pint until returning to NZ in 2021. Then, alcohol-free beer choices dried up.

Who better than start New Zealand’s zero alc Brewery, than Grant!

Say hello to State of Play Brewing.  Launched as a new beer brand in 2022 in one of the hardest, monopolised and categories – beer, in a segment most people thought was totally shit.  Why did he take the punt?

While Grant is Brewing he is still walking, and off to enjoy the 800 km Camino Frances in March ’25.   

So we thought we could join forces and talk (drink) beer, gear and the Camino.
