Wallaby Counting with YHA Cairns Central
Event description
Join us to help save a local wallaby population
In Trinity Beach, there's a resident population of Agile Wallabies, that have become trapped on all sides by roads and development. Every year over the past four years over 600 wallabies have been killed by cars, unleashed dogs, and fencing . The Agile Project is a volunteer-led nonprofit that works to manage this population, and lower the death toll. Doing a monthly count of the population helps us understand whether the population is growing, declining, or stable, and helps the local council develop an effective strategy to humanely managing this population.
Volunteers will be counting all the animals they see (there are around 500 at the moment) in various parts of the precinct) All materials, training, and supervision by Agile Project Volunteers will be provided.
