Join Filipina Australian visual artist Alyssa Powell-Ascura for a guided walking tour of art in the City of Adelaide.

Inspired by the concept of ‘gala’, a Tagalog word which means 'meandering' or ‘wandering’ with no specific outcome or goal, this tour encourages you to slow down, take your time and be present with art (and new friends) in a supported, casual environment.

After visiting three diverse exhibitions featuring works by BIPOC* artists of the global majority, you'll leave with a copy of Alyssa's mini-zine explaining the 'gala' concept, ready to embark on your own 'Gala around SALA'.

Tour departs from The Jam Factory, 19 Morphett Street, Adelaide at 2pm - be sure to arrive 10minutes prior.

About your Guide

Alyssa Powell-Ascura is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary creative primarily working across socially engaged art, installation and moving images, embracing the term ‘slashie’ to describe her fluid, multi-hyphenated practice.

Curiosity, play and process define her work, as does its ability to resist easy categorisation.

Her practice is deeply embedded in bayanihan, which refers to acting within a framework that prioritises community, focusing on a collaborative approach.

Her first solo exhibition, Halo-halo (2024) received The City of Adelaide SALA Award (2024). Recent achievements include being appointed The City of Adelaide Emerging Curator (2025) and receiving a Guildhouse Catapult Mentorship (2026).

If she’s not talking to the local aunties, she can be found by the beach or singing karaoke late at night.
