Wantok Musik’s Sing Sing
Wantok Sing Sing -Telek, Radical Son, Tio, Frank Yamma, David Bridie is a vibrant, joyful celebration of culture from Melanesia and First Nations Australia, all together in one huge show.
SingSing is a tok pidgin word from Papua New Guinea meaning a large musical gathering, a celebration in song and dance, a music party. The concert presents 16 of the finest musicians from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Australia featuring Pitjantjatjara elder Uncle Frank Yamma and PNG music legend Sir George Telek. The musicians each share songs and stories from their culture and language, accompanying each other and collaborating to find new levels of connection, under the artist direction of 7-time ARIA award winner David Bridie.
Tio brings his honey-toned voice from Vanuatu and Kamilaroi/Tongan artist Radical Son’s gravitas on stage is breathtaking. Award-winning cultural musicians from Solomon Islands share unique music accompanied by panpipes and log drums, while PNG singer Danielle’s soaring voice shows why she was selected by ABC Radio to perform at Memo Music Hall in 2023.
The Sing Sing ensemble has performed in the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics, WOMADelaide, The Sydney Opera House (Message Sticks Festival), and Boomerang Festival, as well as tours throughout Melanesia, Europe, and the USA.
