Warblin Album Launch
Event description
Melt began as a solo project for Jordan Rodger over a decade ago, as an outlet for improvisation. Creating music built from loops, grooves, and textures, the 'Melt sound' is based on spontaneity and linked with a love of automatic drawing - whatever comes first becomes the composition.
Melt live performances have taken on the form of solo guitar sets, duets with other artists and more recently a quartet, with the current lineup featuring Advait Thakur, John Binos and Sam Eggins. The group have put together a set of music from past Melt material and the upcoming record, 'Warbling'.
Composed in a similar style to earlier Melt projects 'Theta Waves' and 'Deep Layer', the album is based around a 'one take' guitar improvisation - a continuous session built from loops, melodies, textures, and multi-instrumentals. Inspired by post-rock guitar heroes such as Jeff Parker and the International Anthem roster.
As in the previous releases, artists were approached to collaborate on several pieces with a vague brief that 'bird song and it's personal effect on them' should inform their additions. The results were some beautiful tape manipulation and vocal drones added by Reuben Ingall (NIMBY, Pav Dundee) an oblique dream recollection from Alice Rezende (Olivia's World), and dreamy, playful saxophone interplay from Anna Langdon (Loose Fit).
The result is an album that the listener can drift in and out of, settle in for some deep listening, or maybe (hopefully) it might inspire some future bird watchers/noticers.
The Melt Quartet will be joined by sonic experimenters, Sia Ahmad, Marlene Radiche and NIMBY.
