    Event description

    An important community forum to address housing affordability and accessibility. 

    Hosted by Zali Steggall MP, Federal Member for Warringah, you will hear from a panel of experts as they discuss the current housing situation in Warringah and possible solutions.

      Key Topics:

      • Housing affordability is one of the biggest issues facing people in Warringah and across the country. What are some immediate levers we can pull as a community to address the housing shortage?
      • What are some long term solutions to the housing crisis?
      • Challenges in creating affordable housing e.g. tax reforms, LGA expectations, where do front line workers live?


      Panellists:

      Louise Kerr - Director Planning and Place, Northern Beaches Council 


      Louise joined Northern Beaches Council in 2019, bringing a wealth of local government experience to Council, having worked in executive leadership and town planning roles at large metropolitan councils including City of Sydney and City of Parramatta. In her role as Director Planning and Place, Louise is leading the transformation of the sustainable development of the Northern Beaches and enabling long-term planning and delivery of diverse, affordable housing choices across the Northern Beaches.


      Maiy Azize -  Deputy Director, Anglicare Australia and spokesperson for Everybody's Home


      Maiy is the Deputy Director of one of Australia's largest charitable networks, Anglicare Australia as well as the spokesperson for Everybody’s Home, a national campaign to end Australia’s housing crisis. The campaign is made up of over 400 housing and welfare organisations, and has 40,000 individual supporters across the country. Maiy is also the author of several major studies including Priced Out, looking at the rental crisis, Asking Those Who Know, looking at experiences of Australia’s Welfare System, and Five Ideas Australia Needs Now, a book released in 2022.


      Matt Grudnoff – Senior Economist, The Australia Institute 


      Matt has published widely on a diverse range of subjects including taxation & tax concessions, the federal Budget, poverty & inequality, retirement incomes, free trade agreements, housing affordability, energy economics and climate change. Prior to joining the Australia Institute, he worked at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Department of Climate Change.
