Art exhibition that will challenge the way we look at waste.

About this event

On display will be all the entries to this years Selwyn High Schools' Waste Art Competition. The exhibits will be on show from 10am on Saturday 13 August until 4pm Sunday 14 August. We are grateful to Mayor Sam Broughton; who will be presenting the awards at 1pm on Saturday.

This exciting and enjoyable competition was run for the first time in 2021 and we are sure it will yield the same sort of interest and excellence this year. There are two new developments this year; Firstly, the competition has been opened to all year 7 and 8 students not just those attending High School. The other is that the awards will take place in the new venue Te Ara Ātea with all the work being publicly exhibited in the new library after the presentations.

“From Bags to Riches” was the imaginative title of piece of art which won 2021’s Waste Art Competition. A dress which led a field of 22 entries was made from used feed bags and bailing twine. We also had an R2D2 constructed from a used gas cylinder and offerings using all sorts of so-called waste materials destined for landfill. All the entries had merit and all received well deserved prizes, along with the main prize winners.
