Event description

Come and join a workshop series where we will learn about local birds and make water baths for them and other animals, to be installed in the garden at NECCHi. Collaborative work encouraged! These workshops take place over three sessions.

Session One: Saturday 3rd July 9-3pm. Merri Creek walk* and talk from long-standing Friends of Merri Creek committee member Ann McGregor + making* of ceramic water baths from terracotta at NECCHI. Walk: 9-12pm, making 12:00-3pm

*Note, the walk part of the workshop will involve crossing some roads, and navigating some unsealed paths. If you'd like to make stuff but not walk, please come to NECCHI after 12pm and join the making part. :)

*Making involves using your hands to build terracotta forms. There will be seating available.

Session Two: Sunday 4th July 9-3pm. Finish making water baths at NECCHI.

Session Three: Sunday 17th July 9-3pm. Decorate the water baths with glaze and/or mosaic from pottery shards collected from around the merri merri.

If possible, please register for all three sessions, as this will ensure we can finish our pieces :)

These workshops are designed for ages 10 years and over.

This workshop takes place on the land and sacred waterways of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people. The clay used in these workshops come from the land of the Dja Dja Wurrung and the Taungurung Peoples (near Bendigo), and also from land of the Kaurna people (South Australia). Sovereignty has never been ceded and we would like to pay our respects to elders past and present.

This project is supported by Moreland City Council's Community Creator Grant
