Event description

Come and join our Bushcare team and learn about waterbugs!

Be a citizen scientist with us for the day and investigate how healthy Schoolhouse Creek is. We will do an activity to explore and identify what lives here and determine the creek's health.

After the waterbug activity, we will do some weeding to help improve habitat for our creature friends!

So come and join us in some habitat restoration!

Why are waterbugs important?

  • They are a food source for other animals, such as fish, birds, platypus, lizards, and frogs.
  • They recycle nutrients by scavenging dead or decaying plants, animals, and bacteria.
  • The number of waterbugs can indicate a creek's health -- so the more, the better!

What can I expect?

  • You’ll be provided tools, training, and guidance for the activities. No experience is required!
  • Yummy refreshments, tea and coffee.

What do I need to wear and bring?

  • Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy closed-in shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • A bottle of water.

The event is open to everyone with and without Bushcare experience. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Registrations are essential as places are limited.
