Watercolour Class - Term 4 2026 - Tutor Tony Bramwell

These classes are designed for watercolour artists who wish to expand their knowledge and explore the many techniques and applications of this versatile medium.

Classes are conducted in a masterclass format. Tony selects a subject, provides preliminary reference material, and demonstrates the painting process step by step. Participants receive individual guidance, practical assistance, and constructive feedback throughout the completion of each artwork.

Subjects may include boats, rural scenes, historic buildings, landscapes, seascapes, flowers, and streetscapes. Demonstration pieces are often based on Tony’s own paintings, while also drawing inspiration from and acknowledging the influence of some of the finest watercolour artists in the field.

While we study the techniques and approaches of other artists, the primary goal is to encourage each participant to develop their own unique style and artistic expression.

Our classes are conducted in a friendly and supportive environment, with plenty of laughter, shared learning, and the enjoyment of discovering more about this wonderful medium.

Materials:

To get started, participants will need:

• 300gsm cotton rag Watercolour paper (either in a pad or as loose sheets)

• Watercolour paints in tubes - recommend: Holbein, M.Graham, Maimeri, Van Gogh, Michael Harding, Winsor & Newton

• A suitable palette with ample mixing space

• Soft Watercolour brushes with good points (avoid bristle brushes)

• Hand towel and tissues

• Masking tape

• Drawing board (approximately 500mm x 400mm, 3mm MDF)

This list provides a suitable starting point. As your skills and interests develop, you may wish to expand your range of materials and equipment.

Students are responsible for cleaning their personal workspace at the end of each class in preparation for the next session.
