Waterwatch Kids Field Day
Event description
Join us on our second annual Waterwatch day with the Upper Plenty Merri Catchments Landcare Group as we introduce children to the fun of amateur environmental monitoring under the guidance of experienced Waterwatch Volunteers. The purpose of the day is to help our understanding of creek health by assessing aquatic invertebrate populations. Children will help collect stream samples and learn how to recognise and sort their specimens into like categories.
The presence and absence of different species and their numbers is then used to assess creek health.
This will be a fun day with limited places available. If the weather is bad a rainy-day program will take place (under cover), but all the sampling, sorting and science will still occur. A 10am arrival, followed by lunch which is included in the ticket price.
