Step aboard the Popeye and embark on an extraordinary journey with Waterway Tales: The Floating Stage, a unique event series that forms a highlight of the Nature Festival, supported by The Office for Aging Well. Two unique 90-minute experiences, each discovery cruise offers a unique perspective of the Popeye and the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari, blending the tranquillity of Adelaide's waterways with the rich tapestry of storytelling and performance. As you float serenely along the river, take in the city’s beauty from a fresh, captivating angle and deepen your connection with nature.

Join Captain Salty, the charismatic captain of a coastal trading ketch, as he navigates the waters of South Australia (River Torrens Karrawirra Pari) in an unforgettable segment of Waterway Tales: The Floating Stage. 

With the lively duo of Pete Chambers and Jillian Smith at the helm, this unique 90-minute experience transports you back in time through a vibrant blend of songs, stories, and historical anecdotes. He and his crew will take you on a musical voyage discovering the awe and beauty of our waterways and tales of the power of our local seas.  

This musical voyage promises to enchant and educate, offering a captivating glimpse into the life and lore of South Australia's maritime heritage. 

Salty Pete Chambers is a South Australian offshore yachtmaster and instructor. He is also a singer songwriter who writes songs about the sea. His work has been shortlisted in song competitions and he has performed locally and interstate, including at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Fleurieu Folk Festival. He has worked professionally as a captain and has crossed the Atlantic and Pacific oceans under sail.  

Jillian Smith is a Visitor Engagement Officer at the South Australian Maritime Museum. She is also a published writer of short stories and poetry and has performed locally, including at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Designed as an intergenerational adventure, Waterway Tales invites you to bring your family- bring your grandkids- along for an unforgettable voyage. Together, you'll traverse the waters of time, with each performance offering a blend of awe-inspiring tales and joyous fun. Marvel at the engaging performances that bring stories to life, weaving narratives that celebrate the wonder of our natural surroundings and the bonds that tie generations together.

Complementing the enchanting performances, guests will enjoy a selection of delicious food and drink from South Australian providers, ensuring that every sense is delighted. Whether you are a long-time resident or a visitor, these limited-edition cruises offer a rare opportunity to see Adelaide's natural beauty through new eyes.

Each Ticket Price includes: Popeye Ticket + 90min-Performance.

The Bar on board will be open for the entirety of the performance with Salty Pete's signature Dark and Stormy Special served on board as well as a selection from some of of South Australia's finest wine and beverage providers (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available).
