Workshop Waterwise Wicking Beds

Join horticulturalist and environmental educator Melissa Houselander for a waterwise wicking beds workshop at Edendale – with a focus on autumn veggie planting.

In this workshop, participants will gain practical knowledge about the water saving benefits of gardening in wicking beds. Topics covered include:

·  What is a wicking bed, and how do they work?

·  Pros and cons of wicking beds

·  Types of wicking beds, pots and raised garden beds

·  Commercial and DIY wicking bed options

·  Suitable plants to grow in wicking beds

·  Soil type, amendments and maintenance

The workshop includes a tour of the productive wicking beds at Edendale, and is suitable for adults and young people (16+) with beginner to intermediate gardening knowledge.

About your Tutor: Melissa Houselander, founder of Hortopia Landscapes

Melissa is a Therapeutic Horticulturist and avid gardener. She is passionate about promoting biodiversity and growing nutrient-dense food, using permaculture principles and regenerative gardening practices. Melissa tends her home orchard and large vegetable patch, keeps chickens, ducks and bees, sharing her knowledge and experience as an Educator and Garden Coordinator in community gardens.
