Event description

Nature Conservation MRR are teaming up Goanna Bush Cafe and Happs Wines in the fight against weedy wattles, in particular Sydney Golden Wattle and Flinders Range Wattle, which pose a serious threat to the unique ecology of the Hayes and Commonage Road Reserves.

This free event will provide local residents with an opportunity to meet their neighbours, learn about the values of their unique local bushland and more specifically the threat of woody weeds. Local weed guru and bush regenerator, Rick Ensley of MR Naturals will lead a walk and talk focusing on how to identify these troublesome weeds followed by a practical demonstration on how you can control these species on your property.

The workshop will commence with an info session at Goanna Bush Cafe, followed by a weedy walk and talk along the bush track adjacent to Hayes Rd reserve. We will finsh up back at Goanna where we hope you will join us for a gathering over a complementary glass of wine to reflect on what we've learnt and discuss further action.

We will have a range of plant samples of species not seen on the day to further aid in building our identification of woody weeds. We encourage participants to bring their own samples and photos of species they are not sure of.

Registrations are essential for catering purposes on the day. Spots are limited so get in quick!

Want to join us?

Meet at Goanna Bush Cafe at 1.30pm.

Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided on the day for registered participants.

The Woody Weeds campaign is funded by the WA Government's Natural Resource Management Program WA.
