Understanding and Drawing Wattles

Spend a day with Dr Tanya Scharaschkin, botanist and artist, learning about wattles (Acacia species). There are ~1000 species of wattles, with the vast majority of these occurring in Australia and forming an important part of our ecosystem.

We will dissect, examine and draw wattles and learn the appropriate terminology required for identifying them. Your observations and drawings can form part of a botanical study, from which to develop further artwork.

This one-day workshop will combine art and science, It will be suitable for anyone interested in plants and wanting to learn how to see and draw accurately. No prior drawing or botany experience necessary.

Materials: Participants will need to bring their own drawing supplies. Please do not feel obliged to purchase any special materials. Bring whatever art supplies you currently own. In general, you'll need a sketchbook or pad, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler. Coloured pencils, pens and water colour materials are entirely optional. A dissecting kit and magnifying tools will be useful. Bring your reading glasses if you need to use them! Bring lunch, snacks, drinks, and your own mug.

Conditions: A minimum of 6 participants are required for this event to go ahead. Please notify Tanya if you start feeling unwell in the days prior to the event. Refunds, after the 14-day minimum notice period has expired, will be at the discretion of the event organiser and dependent on your spot being filled at short notice. Please do not attend if you are unwell.
