FAQs

• What should I bring?

  • Comfortable walking shoes (some homes will be a short walk, or you can rent a bike/E-bike!)

  • Questions. If homeowners can't answer them, bring them to our experts in the hub

  • Notepad to take notes

  • Phone for photos (ask homeowners first)

  • Appropriate layers for the weather of the day (sunblock and long sleeves, maybe even a raincoat if necessary)
    

  What NOT to bring?

  • Large bags or backpacks (space is limited in some homes)

  • Pets (unless registered assistance animal)

• What if it rains?

  Tour proceeds all weather (solar works in the rain too!) Severe weather cancellations will be communicated.

• Can I take photos?

  Yes for personal use. Please ask homeowners first.

• Is this wheelchair accessible?

  Please let us know your accessibility needs at check out. This will vary by house and we can guide you to the most appropriate locations.

• Will there be food/refreshments?

  Homeowners are not providing food but there is easy access to cafes at the Hub in Days bay and the Village in Eastbourne. We suggest setting aside some time for a break if you're planning on doing more than 3 houses.
  
  We also plan to put on a BBQ in our Hub in Williams Park at 4pm when the tour ends. Come and meet the other participants and chat solar over food and beverage.

• How do I book or change my time slots at houses?

  You'll receive a post-purchase email with details on how to do this. If you've already purchased a ticket, head to our website to choose time slots or manage your booking.

  You'll be able to change your bookings to any available slot up until 48 hours before the event. But book quickly, as slots may fill up fast – especially if you need to book in for a few people to travel together.
  
  If you've got any special requests you can email us (also in the post-purchase info) and we'll do our best to accommodate.

• What if I'm running late (traffic!)?

  Head straight to the booked house, your slot is on-going for 30min. You might miss the opening info but you'll have a chance to ask a few questions and catch up at the end. Depending on how much travel time you need to get to your next tour stop you can likely stay a few minutes over.
  
  If you're really late and will miss your booking head to the Hub and they will try to find you an opening to see any missed houses.

• Can I bring children?

  Yes, this is family friendly. Children who can participate (asking questions, observing) need a ticket to ensure we don't exceed the 10-person capacity per session. Babies in arms don't need tickets. Children must be supervised at all times - we're in people's homes with equipment.

  Please be mindful that groups are small (max 10), so everyone who's booked can see and hear. If your child needs close-up space to engage, they need a ticket.

• Who is putting this event on and where do proceeds go?

  This event is produced by volunteers from Electrify the Hutt - a non-profit community group associated with Rewiring Aotearoa. Ticket sales help to fund the event and any proceeds go back into the running of Electrify the Hutt and future events aimed at helping our community electrify.
