Join us in Bunbury for a coastal professional development retreat that redefines how nurses learn, grow, and recharge.

From bedside to beachside, a blend of evidence-based education, wellness sessions and connection - creating a space where learning feels restorative.

Across two days, you’ll engage with inspiring contributors who are shaping the future of healthcare, including experts in resilience, and leadership. Each session is designed to deliver meaningful professional development while reconnecting you to your purpose as a healthcare professional.

    Karen Livey

    Karen Livey is a leadership speaker, coach, and facilitator specialising in neuroscience-informed emotional intelligence, resilience, and sustainable performance. With qualifications in psychology, neuroscience, and business, she brings brain science to life in practical, evidence-based ways. Karen works extensively with frontline professionals, positioning energy as the foundation for clear thinking, effective leadership, emotional regulation, and safe, compassionate care.

  • Gail Hill

    Gail Hill

    Director – Keipa Boodja Aboriginal Corporation Community leader, mentor, and Aboriginal wellbeing advocate. Mother of three and proud grandmother of ten. Gail delivers culturally informed mental health, AOD awareness, and prevention education grounded in lived experience. She delivers and supports cultural heritage programs and works closely with communities, services, at-risk youth, and families to create positive, lasting change

  • Julie Verley

    Julie Verley

    Julie is a Clinical Counsellor and Social Worker with over 16 years of experience dedicated to supporting individuals, couples, families, and groups through life’s most challenging moments. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Curtin University and a Master of Counselling from Monash University in NSW. Julie is an accredited member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and was honoured with the Social Worker of the Year – Rising Star award in 2016. Julie’s professional journey has spanned a variety of clinical and community settings, where she has cultivated a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological needs of those she supports. Her practice is grounded in compassion and integrity, offering a calm, confidential, and nurturing space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Currently working at Solaris Cancer Care and Red Nose Grief and Loss, Julie provides counselling, wellness coaching, education, and group facilitation. Her approach is holistic and human-centred, weaving together evidence-based psychological strategies—such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices—with gentle somatic methods that honour the connection between body and mind. Julie has a particular interest and expertise in supporting people through grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, chronic and terminal illness, end-of-life care, depression, fears, and relationship challenges. She is also a trained Accredited DRUMBEAT facilitator and a practitioner of Yoga Nidra (Deep Rest) and Restorative Yoga, which she integrates thoughtfully into her therapeutic work to support healing on both emotional and physical levels. Deeply committed to her own growth and self-awareness, Julie regularly engages in personal reflective therapy and professional supervision. Outside of work, she finds peace and renewal in nature, often accompanied by her kelpie/border collie companion whether meditating under the trees or running through the bush. Julie’s warmth, wisdom, and gentle presence create a space where clients feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to move toward greater wellbeing and meaningful change.

  • Christina Gammon

    Christina Gammon

    Christina is a Registered Nurse who has lived and worked in Perth, the Kimberley, the Gasgoyne and the Great Southern before moving to the South West. Christina expanded and broadened her study of health, completing a Bachelor of Complementary Medicine with Endeavour College of Natural Health in 2021, while also working in the online space supporting and mentoring mothers to take care of themselves and their families in a holistic way. Soon after moving to Donnybrook with her family Christina commenced in a Health Education role with South West Women's Health and Information Centre and 2025 has seen Christina move into the CEO role at SWWHIC. Christina is more passionate than ever about contributing to positive change in the women's health space through this role. She is also mother to a tween daughter and two teen sons and loves making the most of the 'Down South Lifestyle' with her family when she is not at work.

  • Anne Mackay

    Anne Mackay

    Managing Director, Radiance South West A mother of four and a grandmother, Anne has dedicated her life to nurturing and caring through nursing and is known for her vibrant and kind nature. Anne’s leadership has led to securing government funding for Radiance to run support groups throughout the South West and changed to an incorporated entity and professional organisation with paid staff. Under Anne’s direction, Radiance has garnered more support from the WA Government and the corporate sector, yet she always has an ear the ground to respond to community needs as required.

  • Julie Broad

    Julie Broad

    Community Leader Julie Broad is a community leader and governance professional with a strong commitment to strengthening communities where people are supported to live, work, and stay for the long term. After retiring as CEO of the Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2025, Julie chose to focus her leadership on community service and was successfully elected to the City of Bunbury Council. She is also President of Accordwest, a major South West provider of crisis accommodation and support services. Julie has worked across sectors in both Bunbury and Perth, spanning community services, social enterprise, government-funded advisory programs, and regional economic development. This breadth of experience has given her a deep understanding that workforce retention - particularly in essential sectors like nursing - depends on more than employment alone. It relies on the broader conditions of life in a regional city: housing, connection, access to services, safety, and a genuine sense of belonging. Julie is a strong advocate for cross-sector collaboration and believes that resilient, thriving communities are built when health, local government, business, and community services work together to reduce barriers and support people to build sustainable lives in the places they serve.

  • Sarah Jensen

    Sarah is a Registered Nurse (RN) and the Founder of Beyond Bedside, an independent education and events initiative supporting nurses and healthcare professionals across Western Australia. Her work focuses on leadership development, wellbeing, and building stronger professional connection across regional and metro nursing communities.

Agenda

  • Day 1

    Day 1 will focus on reset and recalibration. We’ll set a baseline for what 'resilience' looks like, then move into practical reflection on what’s draining you, what restores you, and what sustainable support looks like in nursing. You will hear from Karen Livey, Anne Mackay, Julie Broad, Gail Hill and Sarah Jensen.

  • Day 2

    A practical day focused on wellbeing and leadership tools you can actually use. The morning starts on the beach with Christina Gammon, for womens health insights and movement. We will also have Julie Verley (Solaris Cancer Care) discussing vicarious trauma and grief, then Karen Livey leads a three-hour workshop on energy, fatigue, sleep, and staying well through shift work.
