Event description

Edgars Creek local residents Hanna, Demian and Pauline warmly invite you to participate in something which brought us together - care for country and respect for the indigenous culture of this land.

"The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.

Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity.

Country that we speak about like a person, sustaining our lives in every aspect - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally." [source: https://www.naidoc.org.au/news...]

The Edgars creek ecology next to our home in Wurundjeri Country is a sanctuary environment where we regularly connect to nature.

What better way to embody this than to learn and practice an indigenous wellness modality in nature.

"Wayapa® is an earth connection practice that is based on ancient Indigenous wisdom that focuses on taking care of the Earth as the starting point for creating Earth Mind Body Spirit well-being." [source: https://wayapa.com/about/]

There will be a smudging ceremony and then the Wayapa practice which will last an hour or more, followed by a yarn circle.

We are very grateful and blessed to have Jem Stone facilitating:
"Jem Stone is First Nations Representative, who has been gratefully living on Wurundjeri Country since 2011.
Working in the wellness industry for over twenty years, Jem is a Wayapa Wuurrk Practitioner and Trainer, Rebirthing Breathwork Therapist and Educator, creates and facilitates workshops to various audiences, from the corporate arena to pre-school aged children." [source: Wayappa Directory https://wayapa.com/places/jem-stone/]

Financial contributions are requested which go towards the certified Wayapa practitioner and a portion of each ticket goes towards a donation to land care and tree planting by Friends of Edgars Creek https://foec.org.au/  The amount able to be donated to Friends of Edgars Creek will be announced after the event.
