If Music Be the Food of Love

Wayfarers Australia, a performing group founded in 1997 by Judith Clingan AM, presents If Music Be the Food of Love - a series of choral workshops and concerts for people of all ages. 

Singers of all ages and ability levels are warmly welcomed - our workshop pieces cover a wide range of difficulty levels. If you're new to singing, come and discover the joy of making music together.  You don't need to know the music in advance - our 12 workshop leaders will teach you all the songs, sing through them with you, and support you on each part. If you are an experienced chorister, these workshops will provide you with new repertoire and an enjoyable session of communal singing. 

Be prepared for a beautiful, warm and connecting experience!

Join us after workshops to hear a concert of Wayfarers favourites, including Renaissance music, pieces by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Purcell, folk songs, and exciting works by contemporary Australian composers and arrangers.

Workshop Repertoire

Our workshop repertoire includes original compositions by founder Judith Clingan embodying the Steiner values of truth, beauty and goodness; rounds, which provide an entry point into part singing; songs which express love and respect for our natural world and the people within; and interactive songs accompanied by body percussion.

Concert Repertoire

Our concert repertoire comprises Renaissance music and madrigals, folk songs arranged for choirs, and pieces by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Purcell, coupled with works by contemporary Australian composers and arrangers.

Founded in 1997, Wayfarers Australia has toured the world extensively, bringing choral, recorder and orchestral music to children in Steiner schools. Tours have included Steiner schools in India, Taiwan, China, the UK, Europe and New Zealand. 

The Wayfarers vision has always been to inspire a lifelong love of choral and instrumental music in children, because we know that the experience can transform people and communities. A room full of voices singing in harmony creates something powerful - connection, listening, joy, and a sense of belonging. Many of today's Wayfarer workshop leaders were themselves participants in workshops as children who were inspired by the life-changing choral experiences.

This tour, comprised of a small team of long-standing Wayfarers, continues the group's tireless efforts. We will be offering music workshops to Steiner schools and communities around the Northern Rivers - with the purpose of strengthening their existing music programs, and inspiring further appreciation of music in students. In addition to our workshops, we will also share the joy of choral singing through our performance series in schools and public venues.

Wayfarers tours over the years have proven that singing is far more than performance - it is often a transcendent experience that builds community and connects cultures. The reciprocal generosity of all the communities who have hosted us has made each of these tours possible. Many choirs around Australia and internationally have been touched by this tradition of gatherings, performance, workshops, and shared song. Our tour aims to extend that spirit to the next generation of singers here in the Northern Rivers.
