Description

Wear it Purple Day: Social skate and Community Gathering with Gippsland Pride

Gippsland Pride Initiative is bringing Wear it Purple Day to Moe this year, and we would love you to be part of it.

This is an all ages, all weather event, a social skate for anyone keen to get out on the rink, and just as much an opportunity to connect for anyone looking for a meaningful day out for Wear it Purple Day. You don't need to get on wheels to have a good time either. It's a significant venue with plenty of space, and there's still things to do off the rink if skating isn't your jam.

Whether you're a parent looking for an affirming, supportive and fun day out for the family, our beloved community seeking an excuse to relive their glory roller skating days and have a spin with friends, a young person looking for resources, opportunities and connections, or a Forever Rainbow (over 50 folks) up for a skate, a cuppa, or both, we hope you'll join us.

Join us at Wheelz World, Stadium 34, one of the only skating rinks still operating in Victoria and a genuinely world class venue right here in Gippsland.

Date: Sunday, 30 Aug 2026 Time: 1.00 PM to 4.00 PM Venue: Wheelz World, Stadium 34, Moe

About Wear it Purple Day

Wear it Purple began as an Australian initiative in 2010 but has since grown into a global movement of expression, celebration, and support for LGBTQIA+ youth. Observed annually on the last Friday of August, the day encourages people to wear purple to show solidarity.

We'd love you to bring a splash of purple, or the whole rainbow for that matter, and join this fun community gathering day.

Getting there

The Gippsland Youth Space bus will be running between Moe train station and the venue every half hour from 1.00 PM to 4.00 PM, to make the day as accessible as possible.

What's on

  • Social skating on the rink, with skate hire available and included in your ticket for anyone who'd like to join in

  • Music and activities supported by the Gippsland Pride, Stadium 34 Wheelz World team and our friends at Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby

  • A GPI info and sign up stall for our Volunteer Program, with Merch for sale or order!

  • Community partner presence from Gippsland Youth Spaces and other local youth agencies and groups, to be confirmed

  • A dedicated afternoon tea space for our Forever Rainbows, whether you fancy lacing up for a skate, settling in for a cuppa and a laugh, or a bit of both

  • Food available for purchase at the on-site cafe (not included in ticket price)

Tickets

We've carefully priced tickets below cost to the best of our ability. Your ticket covers entry, and we've absorbed the cost of skate and equipment hire so it's included for anyone who'd like to get out on the rink.

Your ticket ensures we preserve funds responsibly and in line with our purpose - supporting our work providing access, resources and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ people across Gippsland, and creating opportunities for connection and joy.

Ticket prices

  • Under 18: $5

  • Concession card / Forever Rainbows: $10

  • Adult: $20

This is a below cost event. Wear it Purple Day is entirely unfunded and made possible thanks to community support and fundraising for Gippsland Pride Initiative.

We will always aim to facilitate free tickets where possible and encourage you to contact hello@gippslandpride.com if this is particularly prohibitive as we may be able to assist.

Important information

  • Our session runs from 1.00 PM to 4.00 PM. Entry prior to 1.00 PM is not permitted, so please arrive from 1.00 PM onwards.

  • The event will conclude no later than 4.00 PM, and we'll need everyone to depart in a timely fashion at that time due to venue bookings.

  • Young people aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

  • Wheelz World is a wheelchair accessible venue.

  • Skating is a physical activity and, like any sport, carries some risk of injury. Please skate at your own pace and at your own risk. Venue staff may be able to assist to some degree, but support isn't guaranteed, so we ask everyone to exercise their own judgement.

  • All participants are asked to follow the rules and usage terms of the venue.

  • Entry is by ticket only, and tickets may sell out ahead of the event, so we'd encourage you to book early.

  • Gippsland Pride Initiative and Stadium 34 reserve the right to refuse entry or ask someone to leave, to keep this a safe space for everyone.

  • Poor or unsafe behaviour, in or outside the rink, may result in removal from the event.

  • A few sensory notes: this is a large venue and can be cold in winter, so we'd encourage you to rug up. There will be music playing throughout, and at times crowds, movement and social interaction. Please note this venue currently has limited dedicated quiet or sensory relief spaces.

We can't wait to celebrate with you and hope to see you there!
