Weaving Connections: FOREVER Exhibition Tour and Weaving Workshop
Event description
Weaving Connections is a National Science Week supported event hosted and facilitated by MOD. and First Nations artist, Sonya Rankine. The event includes a guided tour that will take participants through MOD.'s current exhibition, FOREVER, followed by a hands-on weaving workshop led by Sonya.
Beginnings, endings & everything in between.
During the guided tour participants will be encouraged to experience time in new ways. Evoke memories through scent. Explore the changes that mark your ageing. Contemplate infinity and your place within it. Consider how we mark endings and what possibilities might stretch beyond our time. Is there life to be found in the infinite expanse of forever?
MOD. is Australia’s leading future focused museum. Our exhibitions are designed for people aged 15-25, showcasing how research shapes our understanding of the world around us to inform our futures. We engage our visitors through a multi-modal presentation of scientific research, art and innovation.
Sonya is the founder and artist of Lakun Mara. She is a Ngarringdjeri, Ngadjuri, Narungga & Wirangu artist with a practice that connects to cultural maintenance, survival, and revival. Sonya will lead and assist participants in creating “random weave” pieces throughout the workshop, providing a tactile and immersive experience about how we begin to make meaning through cultural objects.
Participants are encouraged to bring a small jar (up to 2 per person) to use during the weaving activity.
This event is supported by a National Science Week SA Community Grant.
