Weaving Connections is an interactive weaving and yarning circle that honours the importance of weaving in First Nations culture and builds understanding through shared creation. In this workshop, participants will craft their own woven mirinj —a star in the Muruwari language —while sharing personal stories. This hands-on experience connects people through the practice of weaving as a vital expression of community and identity.

This workshop is brought to you by North Sydney Council and is part of the Gai-mariagal Festival 2025.

About the Facilitator

Dr. Virginia Keft is a Muruwari artist living and working on Dharawal Country. A multi-award-winning interdisciplinary artist, Virginia works across weaving, sculpture, painting, and installation to share stories of Country, memory, and cultural connection through a First Nations lens.

Workshop Details

No prior art-making experience is required.
All art materials are provided free of charge.
Pre-registration is essential.
Age requirements: 16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian).
Accessibility: Carers/support persons are welcome.
Amenities: Water and bathroom facilities provided.
