    Event description

    This masterclass will teach you weaving techniques using raffia to create your own basket to take home. Weaving strands together to create something unique is reflective of our own life’s journey – weaving brings together creativity, culture, healing and community, this art form is a mirror of diversity and unity, perfection within imperfection, beauty drawn from within.   

    Short session classes designed for all ages to learn basic coil weaving to produce a small basket.

    Claire Felicia Agale is a Meriam woman descended from the Torres Strait Islands. Primarily working in natural fibre weaving, raffia weaving & jewellery ,Claire is recognised for her contemporary weaving & body informed, organic sculpture. Her work is heavily influenced by her family , the environment & First Nations culture. 

    Desert-Rain Magpie is a Noongar woman from South-West Western Australia. As a First Nations Artist practicing in textiles and visual arts, Desert Rain has a passion for working with parents and children to strengthen cultural identity & connection.


    PLEASE NOTE: Sunday 10 and Sunday 17 will take place in the Yulagi Space (tent opposite Salt Mill) and Friday 15 will take place in the Sculpture Studios, in Wallace Nicoll Park.
