Ocean connections | Weaving Water @ Yarun
How does traditional knowledge, technology and art contribute to how we understand life under water? Come to the Bribie Island Seaside Museum to find out with some presentations from participants of the Weaving Water @ Yarun ArtSci program.
The talks will complement the current exhibition Out of Sight, Out of Mind interactive ocean exhibition at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum.
This event is part of Treecreate’s inaugural Weaving Water @ Yarun program on Bribie Island with participants visiting from the USA, Europe, Asia, Vanuatu, Aotearoa New Zealand and interstate.
Many of the residents are internationally recognised for their work and have significant standing in their fields with more than half of the group also identifying as First Nations.
Weaving Water @ Yarun is an opportunity for enriching cultural and creative exchange, environmental awareness with a focus on the ecosystems of Yarun Bribie Island.
This project has been supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund administered through Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Sandy Sur (Vanuatu)
Sandy Sur is the director of Leweton Cultural Experience, an organisation devoted to the ancient customs of the Islands of Gaua and Mere Lava.
Desna Whaanga-Schollum (Aotearoa New Zealand)
Desna Whaanga-Schollum (nō Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungunu, Pāhauwera) is the Māori communications advisor for Sustainable Seas (NZ) and Co-Chair of Māori and Indigenous design network Ngā Aho.
Sarah Jane Pell (AU)
Sarah Jane Pell is an award winning Australian Occupational Diver, aquatic performer and versatile art and science collaborator, best known for pioneering "aquabatics" that is performed underwater.
Leah Barclay (AU)
Leah Barclay is an award winning Australian sound artist, composer and researcher specialising in ecoacoustics, acoustic ecology and creative technologies for conservation and climate action.
Darren Jew (AU)
Darren Jew is an award winning Australian photographer of underwater, wildlife and landscape with a passion for the ocean, based on Bribie Island.
Bribie Island Seaside Museum is open from Wednesday to Friday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, and Saturday to Sunday, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
