Weaving is a longstanding tradition practised by First Nations peoples across Australia and around the world. For thousands of years, natural materials sourced from Country have been woven by hand into functional and cultural objects including baskets, mats, nets, dilly bags and more.

Today, weaving continues to be practised as a way of sharing knowledge, strengthening cultural connection and creating space to slow down, connect and make by hand.

Join proud Gamilaroi woman Shareen Griffiths, founder of Gamilaraay Gulay, for a relaxed and hands-on weaving workshop. Shareen will introduce you to the fundamentals of weaving with raffia, sharing her knowledge, techniques and tips as you work towards creating your own woven basket to take home.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn how to shape and build your basket step-by-step while developing practical weaving skills. No previous experience is needed, making this a great opportunity to try something new, get creative and enjoy the process of making.
