Join experienced teacher, psychologist, and trauma expert Clair L. Goldberg, PsyD, BCN, and learn how emerging neuroscience research requires us to reconceptualize the clinical assessment.

Integrating the implications of current neurophysiology research on attachment and early developmental trauma with affect regulation theory, and by learning to pay close attention to the therapeutic conversation (described in the Conversational Model of Therapy), participants will learn how to enhance assessment strategies. This will facilitate more effective assessment skills and contribute to a better ability to evaluate client needs consistently throughout the treatment process. With a more nuanced and concrete methodology for assessing patients that is rooted in a research evidence-base, coupled with keen observations of the nervous system arousal levels, you will be in a stronger position to better understand and help your clients.

Describe historical concepts of mental illness and why this is relevant to patient assessment.
Identify three different attachment styles and explain how they relate to nervous system arousal levels.
Be more aware of underlying processes that contribute to patient presentations.

PRESENTER: Clair L. Goldberg
PsyD, BCN, Clair is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Montclair NJ. Her client-centered approach draws from psychodynamic theory and interpersonal neurobiology research.

She integrates treatment with other forms of neuromodulation techniques including neurofeedback, neuromeditation and Somatic Experiencing. In addition to her private practice she teaches the Neurophysiology of Trauma as part of the Integrative Trauma Program at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, NYC.

An experienced presenter and clinician, she specializes in neurofeedback for the treatment of developmental trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, medication reduction as well as to enhance meditation practices and peak performance training.
