Hamstring Tendinopathy

Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy (PHT) is a common musculoskeletal condition that affects distinct populations often with persistent and debilitating symptoms. It is reported in various groups such as long-distance runners, sports with frequent direction changes including hockey, soccer, high load sports including rugby codes (Brukner & Khan 2017) and sedentary populations (Grimaldi, 2018). There are various factors involved in each demographic however the overarching feature is one of a high repetition and/or high load-based condition in positions of hip flexion and adduction. Patients who are sedentary are more likely to suffer from high compressive loads such as sitting for long periods or standing in positions of sustained semi hip flexion. In addition, there may be metabolic factors involved.

In this webinar Jimmy will cover the common presentation including the anatomy involved, expected recovery time lines and outline various treatments including manual therapy and exercise related approaches. Differential diagnoses will also be discussed to help the clinician with evolving and co-existing presentations.

Jimmy has been in private practice for over 21 years and teaching at CIT for the last 15 years. Jimmy has a degree in exercise science as well as a practicing soft tissue therapist. Jimmy draws on his clinical skills, personal experience, and current evidence to discuss hamstring tendinopathy including differential diagnoses.
