People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds are under-represented in cancer clinical trials, and it is important for health services and clinical trial units to be prepared to welcome CALD participants into the clinical trial process.

Presenters:

Dr Suzanne Grant, Western Sydney University - Suzanne Grant (Senior Research Fellow, Western Sydney University) has over three decades of work in health-related fields across research, policy and education in government, hospital and university settings. Recently, she worked with Cancer Institute NSW to identify needs and develop training for healthcare interpreters in cancer clinical trials.
Sharon Lee, Northern Sydney Local Health District - Sharon Lee (Manager Research Strategy and Partnerships, Northern Sydney Local Health District) has over 24 years research experience across both investigator-initiated studies and pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials. She is a Transcelerate accredited ICHGCP trainer.
Tian (Tammy) Tian, Western Sydney HCIS - I came to Australia in 2005 and discovered my passion for interpreting while facilitating a phone conversation between my colleague and a Chinese client with diabetes. After obtaining my NAATI accreditation in interpreting between Mandarin and English in 2012, I pursued a Master Degree of Conference Interpreting at Macquarie University, and obtained my other NAATI accreditations in translation between Chinese and English in 2013. Since 2015, I have worked as a healthcare interpreter at WSLHD HCIS, specializing in medical interpreting.
