Advanced Iron Series
Part 1- Iron Metabolism
The aim of the seminar is to review the role of iron in health and the mechanisms involved in iron metabolism and iron regulation.Â
It will also review the diagnostic tests for iron status and provide a process of identifying primary and secondary iron deficiency. The seminar will also review the novel markers of iron metabolism. Case studies will be used to highlight the clinical approach to understanding iron status in multiple disease states.
Part 2- Iron Interactions
The aim of the seminar is to review the current knowledge of iron deficiency in health and disease states.Â
The seminar will review the underlying causes of iron deficiency, measuring iron deficiency, in correlation with the common presenting symptomology. Case studies will be used to highlight the identification and treatment of absolute and functional iron deficiency.
Part 3- Iron Deficiency, Overload & Inflammation
Iron is an essential element for living organisms but becomes toxic when its systemic and tissue concentration overwhelms the physiological storage capacity.Â
The seminar will review the molecular mechanisms of iron overload, measuring and monitoring iron overload and the consequences of iron overload on body systems.Â
It will also review the effect of Inflammation on iron status and interpretation of diagnostic tests. Case studies will be used to highlight the complexity of iron metabolism in inflammatory states.
