Weddin Wattles Book Launch
Event description
Join Weddin Landcare and the Biodiversity Conservation Trust with special guest Suzette Searle from the Wattle Day Association to launch Weddin Wattles - a local guide and take a bus tour of the Weddin Self-Drive Wattle Trails!
Weddin Wattles - a local guide is a field guide to the wattle species found in the Weddin Mountains Region in Central West NSW. Within the guide are the Weddin Self-Drive Wattle Trails showing where wattles can be found in abundance in public areas and roadsides.
The project is the result of 12 months of collecting local information on the species in the Weddin Shire and collating it into a simple field guide. The aim of the project was not only to identify and map the local species, but to share knowledge on the importance of wattles in our natural environment and farming landscapes.
Special guest Suzette Searle will officially launch the field guide. Suzette is the president of the Wattle Day Association and a big supporter of the project. The Wattle Day Association aims to promote National Wattle Day (1 September) as a celebration of Australia and its people; the Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) as our national floral emblem; and wattles, in all their variety, as symbols of Australia.
After the official launch, there will be a bus tour of one of the new Weddin Self-Drive Wattle Trails, where Mikla Lewis OAM will share insights on our local wattle species.
Places on the bus are limited, so be sure to book your ticket.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
