Wednesday Talks // Marta Figueiredo
Event description
Join us for a casual Wednesday Talk with Marta Figueiredo.
Marta Figueiredo is a Portuguese-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist and designer whose narrative-driven practice spans experimental design, sculpture, installation, public art, and performance. She explores how materials, objects, and spatial experiences can convey stories of care, resilience, and the body, drawing from lived experience, cultural heritage, and engagement with place.
Her works use colour, texture, sound, scent, and form to create multisensory environments that invite reflection and embodied participation. Through a discursive approach, she questions normative ideas of productivity, functionality, and the “average user,” offering alternative perspectives shaped by both personal and collective experience.
In 2024, she received the Australian Furniture Design Award for Chronicles of Resilience, and was also a recipient of the Northern Beaches Environmental Art & Design Prize (2021) and Highly Commended at the Clarence Prize (2021).
