Weekend of Weaving Mornington Peninsula/ Merricks Beach
Event description
You are invited to join and gather for a weekend of basket weaving in the warmth of November in Merricks Beach, Mornington Peninsula.
The weekend will consist of 4 separate weaving classes so you can chose 1, 2, 3 or all 4 classes and walk away with a completed basket woven by you in a different fibre for each class.
Zimmi Forest, from Northern NSW will be sharing her 30 years of basketry and weaving experience using fibres that she has foraged for you.
Saturday morning we will work with the leathery sheath of the Piccabeen Palm (previous known as Bangalow Palm) to create a simple and unique form....no 2 will be the same....the natural colours and design of each sheath will delight you....
Saturday afternoon we will work with the panicle of the Piccabeen Palm and Randomly Weave it into shape....nesty and bird - in feel & technique....gifting you a beautifully textured whimsical basket.
Sunday morning we will work with the natural orange leaf of the Dracena Draco and learn the Diagonal Weave - known to the Maori as Kupenga and to the lace makers as Tourchon. It is a rhythmical open weave that your hands will love.
Sunday afternoon we will get full body and work with the invasive vine 'Cats Claw'. this is a very different way to Random Weave and will result in the best shopping basket ever!!
All classes are suitable for beginners and all materials will be supplied.
