This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

This is a perfect creative immersion opportunity.....playing and transforming gifts from the plant kingdom into beautiful objects and baskets.

This weekend workshop will cover the techniques and materials for 4 different baskets, including:

-Diagonal Open Weave,
-Knotless Netting
-Random Weave with Bangalow,
-Random Weave with Cats Claw

Together, as a circle of makers we will experience 4 different fibres and see how the techniques unfold to give such personal creations.

On the Sunday we have 2 sessions of Random Weave, but we will see how the 2 different fibres require  totally different approaches.....the start, the equipment, our bodies engagement, the result and mindset.....

The different techniques are transferable so you can use materials that are accessible to you.

Learn more than basketry, with one of Australia's most experienced basketmakers and teacher.

With over 28 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning.  Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.

Whether you are local or someone wanting a weekend away, come and spend a time in the country and learn these wonderful techniques to transform natural fibres into beautiful baskets. Enough time for mornings at the beach and evenings enjoying the local food venues.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.
