Event description

What is Yin?

Yin is an opportunity to connect deep inside yourself. In this practice of long-held poses, we aim to create more space and freedom in the deepest layers of you.

Yin invites you to slow down, to find stillness and deeper connection to your physical, mental and energetic body while nourishing your joints, tendons, ligaments & deep fascia - targeting areas where you may have pain or niggles from injury, over-use or under-use.

All tissues need exercise to to be healthy, because as we age our bones begin to degenerate & become weaker, our fascia contracts making us tighter and we lose or limit our range of mobility. Yin can help us strengthen our bones, release & unbind our tissues while developing our nervous system, our cognitive systems and our heart - our ability to be calm, content, be present and at ease in your body.

No experience or flexibility required

Often I hear people say, I can't do yoga because I'm not flexible.  This is such a MYTH and not at all what yoga is about.  This practice is suitable to all bodies, all shapes, sizes and levels - yin uses lots of props to support the body and Katie will provide supportive adjustments and options recognising that we all have a unique skeletal make up - so none of us will look the same in a pose.

If you are driving there is plenty of parking out the front on St Kilda rd, or Alma Rd which are un-metered after 6pm. There are un-metered 2-hour and 4-hour parking spots available on Charnwood Crescent.

Busline 3/3a and Tram 67 stop just outside our doors, get off at the Alma Rd / St Kilda stop and walk 70 metres.

About your host

Katie is a 200 hour qualified Yin Yoga teacher as well as a Breathwork teacher. She has found yoga and breath to be the most transformative tools for healing chronic pain, regulating the nervous system and deepening her relationship with self and feels a deep call to share these practices with others.

Katie studied yin with Mysan Sidbo who was a Senior Assistant teacher to Paul Grilley for years - the founder of yin. Her knowledge of yin comes from the deep of our bones - acknowledging and honouring that we all have a unique skeletal make-up which means we all need to move and groove a little differently in our asana practice.

In sharing practice with Katie, expect to connect with your physical, emotional and energetic body through breath, functional movement and supportive adjustments.  Meet yourself on the mat and connect with your inner-most landscape while shifting mental, emotional and physical tension.
