The Weeping Tree Screenings
Event description
The Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) warmly invites you to a special screening of The Weeping Tree.
Join us for this deeply moving series of short films about the cider gum (Eucalyptus gunnii) by Matthew Newton. This vandemonian tree is of immense natural and cultural significance to Tasmania, with the ability to survive blizzards, weep alcohol and even move grown men to tears. Set in the unforgiving and remote Tasmanian Central Highlands, these films paint an engaging portrait of a species and landscape fundamental to the Tasmanian psyche.
After each screening, we will hold a discussion with its participants exploring how art, science and palawa connection to country collide to engage audiences with this depiction of a charismatic tree, critically threatened by the effects of climate change.
