Weirdo Rock @ PFR Lounge
Event description
Cuff are taking over PFR Lounge for the first Friday of the Silly Season, and there's no better way to kick it off than with a serving of the areas best in Weirdo Rock! Joined by friends new and old, we have Terrornoid and Gudgeon travelling from the far-flung Sunshine Coast to open the affairs, and veteran noisemakers The Keepaways headlining the night.
Terrornoid (outsider drone) - Layers of ominous synth, skittering hi hats, booming 808s, haunted vocals, and psychedelic sabbathian riffs weave in and out of one another to form the wall of sound that is Terrornoid. With an ammo box of synthesisers and a revolving cast of collaborators abusing all manner of instruments, from whamola to amplified clippers, Terrornoid will rattle your bones and rack your mind!!!Â
Gudgeon (rhythm rock) - Meticulous Riffing! Mathematic Drumming! Masked Men! Gudgeon is noise rock for the working class, not sucked through the filter, not part of the cycle! The tightest duo on the east coast, Gudgeon play a brand of drum-n-bass noise rock reminiscent of bands like Shellac, and NoMeansNo while still remaining completely their own. Expect difficult dancing, precision power, barrel rolling basslines, and a healthy dose of tongue in cheek crowd abuse.
Cuff (freak funk)- Influenced by a wide range of artists, from the classic funk of James Brown and Parliament, to the unhinged jazzpunk of The Pop Group and Black Flag, Cuff play their own unique brand of acid-fried punkfunk. Mixing together a balanced cocktail of danceable grooves, soulful singing, and six string sonic attack, for an intoxicating blend that's sure to get the people moving!
Keepaways (altrock freakout) - Mashing together sounds from all over the sonic palette. The Keepaways are a duo with a sound undeniably their own. Their influences could be anyone's guess, with flashes of 2000s indietronica, modern noise pop and hip hop artists like Death Grips or The Garden, post punk acts like New Order, and even classic Oz alternative acts like Spiderbait or Violent Soho. Hooks galore, and earworms that'll dig their way into your skull for weeks, The Keepaways walk that perfect line between being wildly experimental and instantly catchy. Not a band to be missed!
