    Event description

Join us to celebrate the launch of Welcome to Blacktown, a place-based audio storytelling project that celebrates the legends of this local government area.

Dive in to Sink or Swim, a new podcast by Blacktown local Angelica Ojinnaka-Psillakis, that follows her as she learns to swim over a scorching Western Sydney summer. The podcast, made in collaboration with Impact Studios, explores the complexities of access to water, the challenges of urban heat, and community’s relationship with place.

This project began with a series of almost 100 interviews with people who live and work in Blacktown. You can meet some of these people as you immerse yourself in We are Blacktown, an audiovisual portrait exhibition that tells the stories of people who are imagining and building a better future.

Sink or Swim and We are Blacktown were made by Impact Studios at UTS, supported by the Paul Ramsay Foundation. The project showcases the Studios’ unique place-making research method, which provides a framework for orienting government, university and development partnerships with communities.

Come along and celebrate the stories of strength and thriving communities, straight from Sydney's West.

A light dinner will be provided. Please RSVP so we can cater appropriately.
