    Event description

Event 1: Welcome to Ocean Country 🌊

Join us for a special celebration of the annual migration of Southern Hemisphere Humpback Whales at our "Welcome to Ocean Country" event. Hosted by Living Ocean, this gathering honors the ancient tradition of the indigenous Garigal people, who welcomed the majestic whales to their shores.

    Date: Saturday, 1st June
    Time: 8:30 AM
Location: Avalon Surf Club, 558 Barrenjoey Road, Avalon Beach

    • Experience the rich culture and spirituality of the land with a traditional smoke ceremony performed by local elder Uncle Neil.
    • Listen to enchanting whale songs on the didgeridoo.
    • Participate in the time-honored ritual of calling the whales by squeaking our feet in the sands of Avalon Beach.

This event marks the commencement of Living Ocean’s 2024 whales and climate research program, focusing on humpback behavioral studies and an East Coast ocean acoustic project. Learn about the critical role whales play in combating climate change and the urgent need to protect our marine ecosystem.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect with nature and support vital research efforts. Join us as we embark on this journey to preserve our oceans for future generations.

RSVP now for an event reminder closer to the date and be part of this unforgettable journey.
